Review of The Devil's Tomb (2009) by Steve O — 04 May 2009
Ok, so a team of mercenaries are sent into the desert to extract a scientist that may or may not of gone all Colonel Kurtz whilst excavating a classified archaeological site somewhere in the desert in the middle east.
could be good yeah? unfortunately the sets used to contain the action are cheap-looking and kinda give you a feel for the whole thing, which is unconvincing overall. the effects offered up are pretty savage on the gore side & pretty nasty too, but if you're like me, you won't really give a crap about the lives of any of the people stuck in the 'tomb'.
it ain't that bad a way to pass 90mins hence the 3 stars & it's got herny rollins in it to, playing a character very different from his other ventures into cinema land. Cuba's on autopilot & isn't going to convince anyone that this is anymore than straight to dvd fodder.
good story reminiscent of a poor mans 'event horizon' sadly executed badly (apart from the hammer, he's cool.).
