Review of The Devil's Rejects (2005) by Danny R — 18 Dec 2011
Rob Zombie brilliantly directs what is truly one of the most gruesome and shocking films ever made, an unforgettable horror show. On a early morning in Ruggsville, Texas, a vengeful Sheriff John Quincy Wydell, played with a burning intensity by William Forsythe leads a squad of armed police officers on "search and destroy" mission on a decaying farmhouse belonging to the infamous Flrefly family, a clan of sadistic mass murderers which the media now refers to as "The Devil's Rejects.
" Inside the house, police discovered a collection of diaries and scrapbooks detailing the accounts of more the seventy-five murders, a huge firefight begins between the police and members of the family, only Otis and his sister Baby, played memorably Bill Moseley and Sheri Moon Zombie who have a sinister chemistry together, manage to escape the barrage of bullets unharmed, they take refuse in a back-road motel, the wanted fugitives rendezvous with their monstrous father and partner in crime the evil clown Captain Spaulding, chillingly played to perfection by Sid Haig who steals the film outright.
The trio begin their murderous reign of terror kiling anyone who gets in their way. Sheriff Wydell has no mercy or remorse for these inhuman killers who murdered his cop brother and will stop at nothing to take them down and personally kill them slow.
Superlative supporting performances by Ken Foree, Matthew McGory, Lesile Easterbrook, Geoffery Lewis and Danny Trejo. The film features a outstanding soundtrack of 70s rock songs, the cinematography by Phi Parmet is terrific as is the editing by Glenn Garland.
This motion picture is not for all tastes, it is very well-crafted and definitely worth a look, if you can take it, but be warned this film is without doubt not for the squeamish, the gore and the extreme sadistic violence are brutal and very disturbing.
Highly Recommended.
