Review of The Devil's Rejects (2005) by Sarfaraz A — 20 Oct 2013
The Devil's Rejects German/American antiheroic thriller film written and directed by Rob Zombie. This is sequel to House of 1000 Corpses. Starring Sid Haig, Bill Moseley, Danny Trejo, William Forsythe, Matthew McGrory (died same year - the film is dedicated in his 'loving memory' as credited in the film) and Sheri Moon Zombie (wife of the director). Film has received NC-17 from MPAA. Director Rob Zombie has cited several inspiration for to keep violence and in the film, to give it touch of '1970s era' - 'western / road-movie' - as well as stern and mean climate. Phil Parmet a documentary-maker was hired to work on its cinematography.
Set in 1978 - ruthless murderer 'Firefly family' of Captain Spaulding (Sid Haig), his wife (Sheri), grown up messy haired son and a randy daughter; all pursued by Sheriff John Quincey (William Forsythe) - Firefly family does not stop at nothing to brutally butcher people they encounter - Sheriff Quincey, whose brother was torturously murdered by the family, vows to inflict similar pains and tortures upon each one of them -.
You do not receive this entertaining films that do not stop at volume of blood and gore in 110mints of duration - Rob Zombie's direction is unmatched when it comes to pick on issue of violence filled movies. It is also of notice that Zombie's writing of story cuts the notion of disliking Sheriff in his rough pursue of culprits, by separating him from entire police force. All the cast sincerely contributes to the film.
Notable author Stephen King has hailed the film, as one of the best from 2005.
