This film is an extreme exercise in exploitation film making. Rob zombie perfectly pegs the grainy eerie look of a traditional low budget 70s cult film. The film is horrifying, depressing, hilarious, and absurd.

Zombie also chooses an interesting narrative method by choosing to tell his story from the point of view of the bad guys (in this case the sick and depraved). But you can't help yourself from rooting for these evil people, then eventually deeply caring for them.
