Review of The Devil’s Rain (1975) by Blais E — 21 Feb 2011
Ultra high- camp occult- horror film with a decidedly menacing & animated perf delivered by the always-interesting Ernie Borgnine as the vicious leader of a murderous Devil-worshipping cult in Arizona.
Perpetually hammy William Shatner & Tom Skeritt try to thwart their plans, with questionable results. Featuring Hollywood Golden-Agers Eddie Albert, Ida Lupino, & Keenan Wynn, as well as a fart-and-you'll-miss-him very early appearance by John Travolta as one of the cultists.
The unfathomably-bizarre ending is especially memorable, as Ernie morphs into an ugly, pug-nosed, Phyllis Diller- coiffed, ram-horned demon, and his loyal followers melt into percolating puddles of multi-colored wax-muck.
An unbelievably-fun cheese-fest!
