Review of The Devil's Envoys (1942) by Andrey B — 22 Sep 2018
One of the best and most perfect parables of love, beautifully realized. It's unique and beautiful atmosphere reminded me of another French masterpiece, Jean Cocteau's 'Beauty and the Beast'.
The theme of love transcending the Devil himself, his most sinister tricks and deceives, is fairy-talish, of course, but when done thus, it's irresistible. It's better to become to a stone than to live in a loveless world of devilish design.
Actors delivered their performances on a magnificently high scale. Once again the magic of cinema captivates me.
