Review of The Devil's Chair (2007) by Casey S — 18 Feb 2010
Thank goodness for Matt Berry. (He being the only reason I watched this) Matt's character adds some much needed humour into this gloomfest. Nothing new on offer here, from the Abandoned Insane Asylum setting to the benchmark plot twist.
The main character Nick West (Andrew Howard) is extremely annoying. And the endless freeze framing and futile narration keeps breaking up the flow of the scenes. The dialogue is a joke as well. Note to the writers, over the top use of profanities are not shocking or clever.
But I will say that it is a very well shot film. The effects are surprisingly decent, the man in the monster suit looks genuinely creepy and the gore and violence are pretty brutal. I have seen worse but I seen a lot better too.
