I hate to use a cliche phrase like "slow burn" to describe a film, especially when its running time is only 80 minutes, but it does fit with The Devil's Candy. Much of the early run time focuses on slow, panning shots of things like the main character developing his painting.

But sticking with it will reward you with an incredibly intense (and well realized) serial killer story with some excellent acting and beautiful shot composition.
