Review of The Devil's Advocate (1997) by Jennifer L — 24 Jan 2010
A devilishly good (no pun intended) turn from Al Pacino is killed by a frankly woeful and probably career worst performance from Keanu Reeves as the hotshot lawyer. The film is farfetched and wayward and the climax is about fifteen to twenty minutes too long.
It doesn't have any overly strong messages that are of any importance and the script could've done with a tweek in more than a few places. The incest links are horrendous and create an unwanted dimension to a film that is already oozing with weird and brimming with stupid.
Charlize Theron provides good support but the director must've seen something was wrong when placing Reeves and her together, noticing that a decent actress has fallen in love with a tree.
