Review of The Devil's Advocate (1997) by Chriss M — 28 Aug 2011
Fairly dull film that starts off as court room drama then meanders it's way into a prosaic romance, only to finish the third act as an occult, faux philosophical joke.
The ending, and final scenes with Al Pacino are so gratuitously over-acted (We get the pleasure of Al Pacino doing a 'Noooooo' scene) one would be forgiven for assuming parody was at play. Parody of a once great actor. Pacino isn't entirely to blame, as the film is poor over all, but he could have done better. Reeves on the other hand probably gives his best ever performance here.
Suspension of disbelief will not help you drag yourself through this film.
