Review of The Devil's Advocate (1997) by Deb S — 21 Feb 2010
Hotshot lawyer Kevin Lomax (Keanu Reeves), who hasn't lost a case and his beautiful young wife Mary Ann (Charlize Theron) are recruited to a prestigious NY law firm. Kevin is instantly taken under the wing of seductive head honcho John Milton (Al Pacino) who gave an awesome performance man-devil John Milton.
Al Pacino portrays him masterfully as suave, witty, sophisticated, and utterly evil and his monologues towards the end, where he tells Lomax of the ongoing battle between angels and demons, good and evil, are fascinating; as he uses logic rather than histrionics in an attempt to convince Lomax where his bread is best buttered.
This is a very disturbing and twisted film and there will be some who will love it, and some who'll hate it. I belong to the former group.
