Review of The Devils (1971) by Ben G — 24 Jan 2008
Bold, brutal, blasphemous, and utterly brilliant. Ken Russell's The Devils is a surreal, uncompromising indictment of the unconscionable injustices of the Catholic church in the seventeeth century.
The screenplay is superb, and Oliver Reed delivers one of the finest, most overlooked performances of the decade. This is a film desperately in need of rerelease.
