Review of The Devils (1971) by Jonathan S — 26 Aug 2009
Ken Russell's blasphemous masterpiece takes religious satire to its most delirious extreme. Extraordinary visual imagery (with outlandish and unique sets designed by Derek Jarman) and superb performances - Oliver Reed and Vanessa Redgrave have created two of the screen's most memorable characters - it's a fantastic smorgasbord of sex, violence, and bizarre humor.
Absolutely not for all tastes, but for those who appreciate Russell's unusual style, this is one of his absolute best.
