Three words: Masterpiece, masterpiece and masterpiece. The scene called "the raping of Christ" had been cut from the original print by the censors and was lost for many years. Film critic Mark Kermode met Ken Russell and some of the actors a few years ago for the needs of a documentary, which was made about the film, and showed them the original footage which everyone thought that had been destroyed.
One of the most shocking and unique films I have ever watched.
