Review of The Devil Wears Prada (2006) by Jerome K — 11 Nov 2011
Okay, disclaimer time. Straight men will probably not enjoy this film. Straight women and gay men, however, will undoubtedly enjoy this book-adapted-film. (I know that's a blanket, stereotypical statement, but whatever).
The comedy is witty, sharp, and clever and never in your face. The basic plot is about an aspiring Northwestern (yay!) graduate trying to break into journalism by using a job in the fashion industry as a stepping stone.
Anne Hathaway gives a lot of heart to the film and has always come across to me as a very classy actress. She is even able to hold her own against Meryl Streep, who masterfully and effortlessly plays her shrewd and cold boss.
I think fans of Sex & the City will definitely enjoy this film, especially fashionistas who recognize names like Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo. The Devil Wears Prada is a surprisingly entertaining film I highly recommend.
