Review of The Devil Wears Prada (2006) by Matt F — 22 Nov 2011
Hey guys - looking for that perfect date movie that won't annoy her and won't put you to sleep? Then "The Devil Wears Prada" might be your answer. Using the bestselling novel as source material, it tells the fish-out-of-water story of Andy (Anne Hathaway), fresh out of school and trying to survive a job under super-bitch fashion editor Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), all while trying to balance life, love and career ambition.
I know, sounds pretty vanilla, but the dialogue is sharper than you'd think and the performances elevate the writing even higher into above-average, screwball-comedy territory. Streep is great as Priestly (who is supposedly based on Vogue editor Anna Wintour) and Hathaway does a nice job hitting the right notes in the more dramatic and emotive scenes.
A breezy, affable, thumbs up from me.
