Review of The Devil Rides Out (1968) by Davey M — 18 Oct 2012
Once the darkness begins to fall...
A father's son has recently moved away, purchased a large house, and failed to continue to communicate with friends and family. The father tracks him down and discovers that he has been practicing black magic. The father tries to stop his son but his followers may be too strong and deep to stop him. There is also a missing child that appears to be a targeted sacrifice. Can the father stop his son and save the child?
"This isn't just your life you're risking. It's your very soul.".
Terence Fisher, director of Island of Terror, Horror of Dracula, The Curse of Frankenstein, The Hound of the Baskersville, and The Gorgon, delivers The Devil's Bride. The storyline for this picture is very interesting and contains well developed and presented characters. The action scenes were better than I anticipated and the acting was excellent. The cast includes Christopher Lee, Charles Gray, Nike Arrighi, and Rosalyn Landor.
"Don't look at the eyes!".
I am a huge Christopher Lee fan so I decided to DVR this picture. I generally don't enjoy movies about devil worshipping or religious cults but this was way better than I anticipated. I thought this was a fairly clever picture with great acting and characters and the special effects were entertaining (I loved the angel of death). Overall, this is a worthwhile Halloween treat.
"I don't want to hurt you. I don't want to hurt any of you.".
Grade: B.
