Review of The Devil Inside (2012) by Joe J — 30 May 2012
Back in 1989, Maria Rossi (Suzan Crowley) was charged with the murders of three clergymen who were attempting an exorcist on the woman. She was found not guilty by reason of insanity and transported to Rome to spend the rest of her life in a mental asylum.
In 2009, Maria's daughter Isabella (Fernanda Andrade) and her videographer friend Michael (Ionut Grama) decide to head to Rome to try and convince the Catholic church to do another exorcist on her mother, and they videotape the process.
They meet young Catholic priests Ben (Simon Quarterman) and David (Evan Helmuth) who agree to help them - without the Catholic Church's aid. What they uncover is something that none of them are prepared for.
Everyone seems to universally pan this film as horrible, especially the ending. I didn't think it was great by any means, but I hardly found it horrible (probably because I've seen many worse B-rated flicks). The ending, I agree, was stupid, but this is a "found footage" film, so what else would you expect? The film didn't set new grounds, and for anyone who's trying to make the next "Exorcist," you should probably stop - nothing can top that.
