Review of The Devil Came on Horseback (2007) by Jemmie W — 08 Feb 2008
Good film documenting the genocide in Darfur.
What's interesting is not so much that a genocide and atrocities are occuring in Darfur, which this film focuses 90% of its time on, but *how* and *why* the world stands by and does nothing only a few years after the genocide in Rwanda that killed 800,000 people. The film spends very little time looking into that, which is fine as otherwise the film may be 4 hours.
The answer is that few powerful countries have significant economic interests in Sudan, like Rwanda. Few special interests in the powerful countries are interested in Darfur -- NRA, AIPAC, AARP, and other powerful American lobbies are not interested in Darfur.
So the phrase "Never Again" should be modified to say "Never Again -- unless there are no economic implications of genocide.".
