Review of The Devil Bat (1940) by Justin H — 31 Jan 2011
Stop me if you've heard this one: Bela Lugosi plays a mad scientist who's out to get revenge on the people who wronged him. BUT, he's doing it, not by creating a race of atomic supermen, but by growing bats to the size of bald eagles and training them to attack and kill people wearing a special kind of aftershave.
If that sounds ridiculous, that's because it is. And at its best moments, "The Devil Bat" is unintentional comedy gold. It does get a little repetitious in places, and that does drag the experience down slightly. However, if you're in the crowd that misses the days of "Mystery Science Theater 3000," you'll probably have a lot of fun with this film.
