Review of The Descent (2005) by Joseph C — 12 Jan 2012
Six adventurous women get lost in the wrong cave complex and find themselves facing a grisly set of circumstances and their own personal demons. With every step into the cave the tension ratchets another notch, and it turns into an almost unbearable horror masterclass in claustrophobia, seeing things in the dark and big, big gaspy jumps.
Deeper than the average creature feature, I don't think it's a coincidence that its an all women cast battling for their survival. Is it too much to interpret it as the plight of modern woman fighting the irrepressible forces of darkness, and the overwhelming odds still sacked against them? I will never be able to sit through it again to know for sure.
