Review of The Descendants (2011) by Kirk S — 19 Oct 2012
George Clooney plays Matt King, a Caucasian-Hawaiian based lawyer who was always busy with his work and being the sole trustee of his familyâ(TM)s trust that controls over 25,000 acres of land on a beautiful island. Matt must put his work on hold when his wife fell into a coma during a speed boating accident. He doesnâ(TM)t know how to be a single parent while his wife is laying on a hospital bed in a coma; He barley know how to be a good parent to his two rebellious young daughters: 10 year old Scottie (Amara Miller) and 17 year old Alexandra (Shailene Woodley). While trying to break the news to family and friends about his wife not coming out of her coma and his decision of pulling the plug, Alexandra reveals that she had been cheating on Matt with an unknown male.
The cast is well ensemble with the surprisingly Oscar worthy performance by Woodley and the perfectly timed comedic relief of Nick Krause who plays Alexandraâ(TM)s beyond dimwitted âfriendâ? Syd. This is undoubtly one of Clooneyâ(TM)s strongest performances and had just cleared a space for his mantle for his new Golden Globe and will probably have to clear another space for his second Oscar. This film had the perfect blend of heartfelt and humorous moments. George Clooney is at the top of this game in this film and is highly recommend for everyone to watch.
