Review of The Descendants (2011) by Andrea W — 06 Dec 2012
I must be in the minority here becasue I thought this was an okay movie. But certainly not Oscar worthy material. I didn't think George was all that either. Understated I guess, but I think I just don't find him as charming as others do. The plot was Real and I give it credit for that, but didn't really get into it. I felt for the family and thier situation, but hardly got me emotionally invested. I have to say I couldn't stand the music. I know this movie is set in Hawaii and a little hawaiian music would be okay. But every breakaway shot had beautiful hawaiian scenery and a twangy guitar riff. It was too much. But that was the directors choice. Also the director chose some not so great actors in the supporting roles. Really Matthew Lillard??
George, Shailene and Judy were good at least. Sounds like Oscar will come knocking on this movie, but I hope no one answers the door .
