Review of The Descendants (2011) by Kenneth L — 17 May 2013
The Descendants has Oscar written all over it. Yes, it's one of THOSE movies, but in this case, this is not a complaint. This movie gave me the same feeling I had watching Little Miss Sunshine, as both are extremely well written and plotted, character-based dramas that deal with the weighty issues of family, death and honor (that is, doing the right thing) in non-trivial ways.
And like LMS, it can be really funny at times, plus there are pretty great performances from the child actors. If you like good stories/movies, it will be hard to find fault with this film. My only warning is if you are sorting through your own family, relationship, or wellness issues, this film may strike a few nerves or prompt a few tears.
