Review of The Descendants (2011) by Mloy X — 07 Jul 2013
Matt King (Clooney): [to Brian Speers] Elizabeth is dying. Wait... Fuck you! And she's dying.
I'm not really a Clooney fan (I know, shocking right?) but every so often a movie interests me and in spite of the fact he's in it, doesn't deter me from checking it out. This was one of those films; although, honestly, it was actually my mom's idea. The movie was interesting enough and locale was (of course) awesome. I hate to admit it but Clooney did a great job playing Matt King, but kudos goes to Shailene Woodley (who play's Alexandra King, Matt's eldest daughter). At first it's just a typical dysfunctional family story but as an ongoing theme throughout the film, things are not always what they seem. When their seemingly perfect life start to unravel, truths get told, feelings gets hurt, issues get dealt with; but eventually, in the end, no matter how horrible things seem to be, forgiveness it the key and being around your family will help you overcome seemingly insurmountable odds. This was a good film, not too overly dramatic or sappy.
