Review of The Descendants (2011) by Abraham S — 28 Oct 2013
An excellent, emotional, tragic picture with an excellent cast of brilliant actors. George Clooney, Shailene Woodley, Amara Miller, Beau Bridges, Judy Greer, even Nick Krause - no one faltered! Clooney, Woodley, and Miler stand exceptionally high above the rest, filling their characters with such real, raw emotion and relatability that you almost can't help but fall in love with them.
I know I sure couldn't help myself. The Descendants takes us on a hilarious and heart breaking few days in the lives of Matt, Alexandra, and Scottie King after the matriarch of the family - Matt's wife - Elizabeth has a fatal boating accident that leaves her on the cusp of death with a few strands of life left in her.
I smiled more than I was aware of; I laughed and squirmed in my seat; my eyes would tear and I'd bite my lip. I had a good time watching this. It was a really good film all and all. I could care less for Krause's character Sid, but the actor was spot-on.
I hated that fucking guy for a long time, enough to predict the movie's failure personally for his existence, but, by the end, I had grown to like him - to appreciate him, and that is a testament to Krause's ability.
The Descendants is worth a viewing for just about everyone. I will be sharing this for sure.
