Review of The Descendants (2011) by Andrew E — 27 Dec 2014
Mixing tranquil Hawaiian landscapes with a story of tragedy and sorrow actually combines well to produce an unusually heart-warming film. George Clooney masterfully portrays a man torn at by grief, regret, anger and forgiveness; his understated performance is at the key to the film's wealth of good parts.
It is not like nothing you've seen before, and it bypasses to an extent a host of opportunities for greater emotional engagement. However, The Descendants is a lesson in how not to judge and how to empathise.
