Review of The Departed (2006) by Evan C — 31 May 2013
This movie deserved Best Picture. Martin Scorsese perfectly executed the story of Billy Costigan (DiCaprio) joining the force and acting as a secret agent to internally corrupt Frank Costello (Nicholson) and his band of thieves.
The use of plot twist added for so much excitement and suspense as you see the rise and fall of both DiCaprio and Damon's characters. The acting is amazing. I mean what else could one expect with Damon, DiCaprio, Wahlberg, Nicholson, Martin Sheen, and Alec Baldwin all in the movie? Each character was formed flawlessly, whether they were the sympathetic protagonist or the humongous asshole.
What I find so amazing about this film is the undeniable realism that is portrayed. Every decision that was made so much sense, because every character had that underlying craving for revenge or acceptance.
I understand how certain people aren't find of this film because in the end, because there is no emotional payoff with a certain character. I just consider these Neanderthals inferior to me when it comes to movie judgement.
