Review of The Departed (2006) by Ken S — 23 Feb 2014
Martin Scorsese makes another return looking into the world of organized crime, only this time its the Boston Irish Mob, and its really more of a cop drama...but a good cop drama. It is nice that Scorsese finally got a Best Director Oscar, having earned it so many times over and never actually receiving it.
Is this the best movie he has made? Is it even the best direction he has had on a film? Not really...but he was well overdue, and I'm glad he got one, whether or not this movie is the best example of his work.
This is a solid film, entertaining with a great cast and script...and it had a few nice surprises along the way. I've not seen the original Hong Kong film this is based on, but this adaptation is good in it's own right.
