Review of The Departed (2006) by Ryan L — 14 Apr 2016
This may be an unpopular opinion, but this is director Martin Scorsese's best movie. and I say that because it is the only movie he had made up to this point in his career that had a plot. now I love almost all of his other movies, but they are character peices that chronicle a life or an individual, this movie, has an actual plot. the story is that Matt Damon is a cop who works for the Irish mob in Boston led by Frank Costello played by Jack Nicholson. and Leonardo dicaprio is a member of Costello's crew who is an undercover cop. Matt Damon os trying to find out who the rat is for frank, and Leonardo Dicaprio is trying to find the rat for the police. sound brilliant? it is. with an all star supporting cast with Martin Sheen, Mark Wahlberg, Alec Baldwin, Vera Farmiga, and Anthony Anderson, all of the acting is flawless. I mean it is pitch perfect. and the writing is no different. nor is the directing. it's a violent, profane, darkly funny film with unbelievable twists and turns, an ending that shocks me to this day, and characters that you love, love to hate, hate to love, and hate. it deserved best picture and I do not think there is a flaw with this film.
10/10.
