Review of The Deer Hunter (1978) by Dan C — 12 Oct 2012
Well-made, well-directed, and with a lot of emotional power. The initial Russian Roulette scene is one of the tensest I've ever witnessed, and the fall-out of that scene provides the rest of the movie with its power.
My only complaints are the length, which the movie actually carries quite well; it's the wedding sequence I could do without. So much of the first hour I found annoying, although I promptly forgot about it once the bloodletting began.
