When people ask me what my favorite movie is (so passe, I know), I respond The Deer Hunter and have done so since the first time I saw it as an undergraduate. Back then we rented either a Betamax or VHS player, reserved a room in the art center, and had a group showing for about 10 of us.
One shot.
De Niro became the man for me in this movie as did Christopher Walken.
This movie is so damn intense! The Russian Roulette scene is gripping. I don't know what Viet Nam was like, but I imagine it was very much like how things are depicted here.
This is not for the light-hearted.
