Review of The Deer Hunter (1978) by Tedd P — 06 Dec 2011
Five Oscars? Vietnam? De Niro? Must be a masterpiece, right? Don't be fooled. Time has not been kind to this surprisingly dull and often agonizingly slow film. For practically the entire first hour it seems like there was no script at all, and by the time things start to pick up (sort of), you've already stopped caring.
If you've seen Apocalypse Now or Platoon, which are the real Vietnam war classics, you'll do as I did and forget this one the minute it's over.
