Review of The Deer Hunter (1978) by Paul P — 17 Dec 2011
'Deer Hunter' contains some of the most powerful scenes and images captured on film. The entire cast is flawless. Cimino's film captures the hell of war and the trauma it puts the people fighting it through.
The first hour is beautifully crafted. The sense of impending doom during those scenes is brutal. The second hour shows you the depths of hell. I mean there is no other way to describe that section of film for me.
But the final hour REALLY hurts the movie, especially that ending scene! It lays it so thick you feel like Cimino is pouring cold honey on your head.
