Review of The Deer Hunter (1978) by Ryan G — 30 Dec 2012
This is one of those movies that is perfect up until the end. Before the end however the movie is filled with intense emotion and it is really an incredibly story about people. The film is very well shot and the story is well written with the exception of the "go America" freeze frame ending.
Christopher Walken plays a deeply troubled man to perfection. Robert De Niro is his usual brilliant self, he can really do no wrong. And Meryl Streep is genius in sort of limited screen time. The score in this film is haunting and sad at the same time.
The Deer Hunter is a very emotional movie, its brilliant and flawed at the same time but it is certainly very memorable and haunting.
