Review of The Deer Hunter (1978) by Sayer F — 11 Dec 2013
If anyone says that this movie is slow or tedious, immediately disregard their opinion. The movie is long, but that doesn't always mean slow. If someone says that this movie is slow or boring it's safe for you to assume that all they want to see is incessant violence, profanity and sex.
While, sometimes, I do enjoy movies that have those elements, I enjoy a movie a lot more if I can watch the excellent acting, directing, and listen to great dialogue. The Deer Hunter has great acting, especially by Christopher Walken, who gives one of the best acting performances of all time and by far the best supporting performance of all time.
This film is full of great lines and is one of the most powerful movies ever made. Even if you know how it ends, you can't help but cry at what happens to the characters. Surprisingly good direction from Michael Cimino and it has one of the best messages of all time: "This is this".
