Review of The Deer Hunter (1978) by Matthew H — 22 Feb 2014
"I feel a lot of distance, and I feel far away.".
Well acted, well directed and nervewrenchingly intense at times. That being said, the film also seems to drag much more than it needs to in the first hour or so. It is also somewhat blunted by a very one-sided point of view. Regardless, it is still great in so many other ways so that all the gripes are more or less made up for. Admitted, its length may bother some, including me on my first watch, but if one can sit through the first hour or so, it is a great film.
