Review of The Deer Hunter (1978) by Jake Z — 13 Mar 2014
After years and years of putting it off, I've finally seen The Deer Hunter. Michael Cimino's multiple Oscar winning war drama. While it has left me feeling a bit conflicted, it's ridiculously powerful performances by Walken, De Niro, Streep, Savage, Cazale, and, well, everyone.
Plus the sheer emotional suspense and unbearable tension, elevate the film above it's weaknesses. I'll never watch it again, but it's certainly proof that they don't make them like they used to.
