This is not a movie for the impatient; it moves at its own deliberate pace. The acting is superb and it's frequently visually impressive, if dimly-lit a bit too often. Buying into this kind of story really requires connecting emotionally with the main character, though, and I didn't feel it -- she came off more petulant and selfish than tortured to me.
