Beginning in late 1979, Penelope Spheeris rolled film and over the course of six months and miraculously captured the best and most influential punk bands in Los Angelesâ?¦all of them in their infancy: Black Flag, The Germs, X, Circle Jerks and FEAR among others, and The Decline of Western Civilization was the result.
The Decline is not only a priceless snapshot of the nascent LA punk scene but is also an essential piece of rock history since countless rock bands can trace their roots to the bands featured in this film.
