Review of The Debt (2010) by Jc E — 02 Mar 2012
I don't remember how many times this was delayed, but I don't really know why. Yes, there were a few head-scratching moments and things that could have been done better, but as a whole; it's a much stronger movie that so many that fall into theaters nowadays.
With a strong cast including the likes of Helen Mirren (The Tempest), Tom Wilkinson (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol), Sam Worthington (Last Night), Jessica Chastain (The Tree of Life), Marton Csokas (Alice in Wonderland), Jesper Christensen (The Young Victoria), and Ciaran Hinds (The Rite), it's easy to see the appeal of the movie.
Plus with a 'Munich'-esque plot, there is a nice draw to the story as well. Unfortunately, the plot becomes a little muddled with some predictability and all too convenient twists. But it endures most of these elements and emerges as one of the more underrated films of the year.
I'm not going to say that it's Oscar-worthy, but it still deserves a second chance on Blu-Ray.
