Review of The Debt (2010) by Ethan P — 01 Dec 2015
It got mixed reviews, and has been compared unfavourably with the Israeli original. As a thriller it's good - pacy and scary, and with a challenging scenario. Much of the criticism seems to have been around the moving of focus away from Nazi war crimes and toward the expediency and hypocrisy of the Mossad hit squad.
Actually it's a good pacy thriller - characterisation is great and the corrosive nature of a lie on people's lives is well illustrated. It may be Hollywood, but it's Hollywood with Helen Mirren and Tom Wilkinson in strong central roles.
