Review of The Death of Stalin (2017) by Gary W — 13 Apr 2018
Very funny, low budget and chock full of familiar faces. Steve Buscemi as Nikita Khrushchev and Jeffery Tambour as Malenkov are brilliant and Michael Palin as Molotov (of cocktail fame) and Simon Russel Beale as Beria are hilariously brutal. I love how Iannucci uses the sound of single gunshots in the background to symbolize the wholesale murder of millions. But it is the Head of the Russian Army (Jason Isaacs) and the unwilling pianist (Olga Kurelenko) that steal the show. Their scenes were so caricatured yet so honest.
Very good but only for those of us who can laugh at this historical brutality.
