Review of The Death of Mr. Lazarescu (2005) by Private U — 09 Jun 2008
A tragic, yet sometimes funny, tale about a man who's had one too many drinks and is near the end of his run. For the most part this film reminded me of "The Death of Ivan Ilyich," which I love, but at a whopping 2 and a half hours, I was just hoping the guy would kick the can already.
Once he starts going to hospitals where people basically ignore him the story is intriguing, but the 45 minutes leading up to that point where he's just in his apartment is a bit of a drag. It's worth a watch if you like subtle/slow-paced films and have a good dark sense of humor.
