There's a great movie somewhere in Don Winslow's brilliant cult novel The Death and Life of Bobby Z, but this is not it. Drained of all the humour and sharp wit that made the book such an unexpected delight, this visually impressive but lifeless adaptation drags in no small part because of Paul Walker's extraordinarily wooden performance.
