Review of The Dead Zone (1983) by Austin N — 22 Jun 2008
The most conventional Cronenberg I've seen, The Dead Zone is a surprisingly enjoyable Stephen King adaptation. Chris Walken turns in a pretty decent performance and Martin Sheen is electric as the insane politician.
The film kind of meanders in its focus, though, and it is distracting. I would've appreciated more of Cronenberg's stylistic effect on the film, but it was charismatic enough on its own to allow me to forgive it that.
I will say that I did enjoy the simple cinematography, as it tickled my fancy for some reason.
