Review of The Dead Pool (1988) by Cecil A — 11 Mar 2009
The last and the shortest of the Dirty Harry films. Features an aging Eastwood (still a tough man, but older) who squares off against a suspect killing off local celebrities. Dirty Harry faces off in order: a socio-path, a group of twisted vigilantes, crazed revolutionary terrorists, a rape-obsessed gang, and.
..a crazy going after b-list celebs. While the killings are somewhat inventive and the rote scenes of Eastwood using relatively restrained levels of violence, the film lacks a certain energy because of the weakness of the antagonist.
Gone are the days when an entire city couldn't do anything and Harry had to step in. Still, much like the later Lethal Weapon movies that lacked the edge of the originals, it is fun to see Eastwood/Harry kick ass one more time.
