Review of The Dead Girl (2006) by Thomas G — 02 Apr 2009
Set up resembling a short story anthology, The Dead Girl tells several narratives that connect thinly to a young woman who has been murdered. Stellar acting from the ensemble cast, with Brittany Murphy, Toni Collette, Maria Gay Harden, Mary Beth Hurt, and "Damages" star Rose Byrne all performing at the top of their game. The feminist message is quite clear in this well-written drama. All of these individuals find some sort of escapism, although the methods are dark and grim. The subject matter is extemely depressing but the intelligence behind the film cannot be ignored. This is independent film-making at its best.
