This is essentially a large excuse for actors to get ugly and recite heavy monologues. It is by no means a bad film because it is interesting and emotionally tense; but it just isn't a terribly original film.
The main reason to see this is to watch Josh Brolin, Rose Byrne, Toni Collette, Bruce Davison, James Franco, Marcia Gay Harden, Piper Laurie, Brittany Murphy, Giovanni Ribisi, Mary Steenburgen and Kerry Washington clearly having fun with the dark emotion material.
