Review of The Dead Don't Die (2019) by Faxthtax — 31 Aug 2019
I love Jarmusch work overall. He tends to use the same actors over again like Tarantino. Iggy Pop, Tom Waits and Murray and Swinton have worked with him previously. A dream cast so to speak.
Waits is equally thrilling in movies as he is on stage with music. But he is buried behind everyone else in the cast beating the bush in the forrest. although he closes the narrative of the movie.
Probably the most freaky character here is Tilda Swinton. She looks like a gollum most parts. Totally nuts but controlled. She plays the oddball whackos so well.
Adam Driver plays his part well, but Murray seems to be a little bewildered uncertain what he wants to be in the movie. Buscemi is fun as usual. You also find Selena Gomez in a smaller role, that ends I half so to speak.
The worst part of the movie is the pacing. It is so horrible slow half the way trough with plenty of unnecessary dialogue. It does pick up some pace when the dead starts to rise though.
It has the typical deadpan Jarmusch humor. Once the bullets starts to fly, you will have a few chuckles. But sadly, the trailer shows too much of the best bits in the movie, so you are already spoilt if you saw it.
To me this movie was a hit or miss. It has its moments but certain elements just pulls at its feet also.
